Abstract

Background. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is frequently associated with long-term consequences known as post-COVID syndrome, which involves persistent disorders of the cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and immune systems. Dysregulation of humoral and cytokine-mediated immunity plays a key role in the pathogenesis of these conditions.

Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of complex therapy in correcting cardiovascular, respiratory, humoral, and immune system parameters in patients who have recovered from coronavirus pneumonia.

Materials and Methods. The study included 102 patients after COVID-19 infection. All patients received complex therapy according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including intravenous quercetin administration. Serum levels of cortisol, testosterone, prolactin, estradiol, as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 were assessed before treatment and after 1 and 2 months.

Results. Complex therapy resulted in a significant decrease in cortisol, prolactin, IL-6, and IL-8 levels, along with normalization of testosterone and estradiol concentrations. After two months of treatment, the proportion of patients with elevated IL-6 and IL-8 levels markedly decreased, indicating a reduction in immune-inflammatory activity.

Conclusion. Complex therapy in patients recovering from COVID-19 contributes to hormonal balance restoration, normalization of cytokine profiles, and attenuation of chronic inflammatory processes, confirming its effectiveness in post-COVID rehabilitation.
