Abstract

The article provides an in-depth analysis of the role and clinical effectiveness of remote ultrasound diagnostics (Tele-US) in the comprehensive rehabilitation system of patients who have suffered severe forms of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Key pathophysiological mechanisms of skeletal muscle damage are considered, including post-COVID sarcopenia, critical illness myopathy, and disruption of muscle architecture caused by prolonged immobilization, hypoxia, and systemic inflammatory response.

Special attention is given to modern methods of quantitative assessment of the structural and functional state of muscle tissue using portable ultrasound systems (POCUS). Approaches for measuring muscle thickness, echogenicity, structural homogeneity, and degree of vascularization are described, enabling objective monitoring of recovery dynamics during rehabilitation.

The authors substantiate the feasibility of using cloud technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms for remote analysis and storage of ultrasound data. This ensures continuous monitoring of muscle tissue regeneration in home settings, increases the accuracy of result interpretation, and reduces dependence on subjective factors.

Data confirming a high correlation (up to 85–90%) between ultrasound parameters and clinical recovery of physical activity are presented, including increases in muscle mass, strength, and endurance. A reduction in the need for in-person visits by 25–40% is also noted while maintaining high-quality medical supervision.

Thus, remote ultrasound combined with digital technologies and AI represents a promising tool for improving the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and enhancing functional outcomes in patients with post-COVID syndrome.
