Abstract

The presented literature review provides current data on chronic subdural hematomas. The importance of discussing this pathology is due to its increasing frequency at the present stage, increasing incidence in older age groups due to demographic changes in society. Aspects of etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, classification, and patient management tactics are considered. The development of ideas about the pathogenesis of chronic subdural hematomas in the historical aspect and the most significant modern data are given. In the tactics of patient management, attention is focused on the most significant clinical symptoms, features of neuroimaging data, and alternatives for choosing treatment are considered. The features of various options for neurosurgical interventions, their possible complications are presented, and the prospects for conservative treatment are discussed taking into account modern data on the pathogenesis of the pathology in question.
